Overview

The Massachusetts Voter Table (MVT) (mavotertable.org), a fiscal project of Third Sector New England, Inc. (TSNE) (tsne.org), was formed in 2011 to build power among the “New American Majority” – low-income a, people of color, young people, and new citizens. The Massachusetts Voter Table (MVT) uses integrated voter engagement to increase resources, representation, and power of people of color, working-class communities, young people, and new citizens. We convene a coalition of grassroots community organizations to integrate civic engagement with grassroots community organizing. Our core goals include building the capacity of community organizations, increasing civic action by dismantling structural barriers to voter participation and moving a collective agenda for racial and economic justice.

 

 

Responsibilities

The Field Director will manage relationships with partner organizations and coordinate field programs. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker, has a background in managing field programs, has demonstrated coalition and campaign skills, is detail-oriented, and can work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds. This position reports to the Massachusetts Voter Table Director.

 

Essential Functions

 

  • Communicate the vision and mission of the Voter Table to partners and within the community to build a base of engagement and understanding of the importance of civic engagement within BIPOC and low-income communities.
  • Develop and implement table-wide programs and plans related to including issue education, organizing, voter registration, and mobilization, specifically with the Democracy HUBS program participants.
  • Manage and lead the implementation and delegate facilitation of MVT partners' field programs through trainings, ensuring benchmarks and goals are met and providing consistent assistance and strategic guidance.
  • Create systems, timelines, training, materials/toolkits, and field infrastructure to facilitate partner organizations’ implementation of field programs.
  • Connect partners with the tools and resources to develop the organizations' field plans and integrated voter engagement goals for deeper coordination and collaboration within regions and statewide engagement.
  • Identify prospective partner organizations and cultivate civic engagement capacity in new organizations for expansion of field programs across Massachusetts.
  • Supervise field organizers and fellows in the implementation of projects and tasks.
  • Support partner organizations through the development of field plans, providing training, messaging guidance, and responding to program requests.
  • Work alongside the Field, Communications, and Data Teams to implement coordinated table projects/programs.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with partner organizations as well as volunteers and core supporters of MVT field programs.
  • Synthesize organizational plans and produce reports on gaps in the overall strategy.
  • On-board staff and leaders of organizations that are beginning to develop civic engagement and organizing capacity.
  • Work closely with the Data Team to provide partners with appropriate analysis, technical assistance, and guidance in their work.
  • Work closely with the Communications team to build and integrate campaign narratives and story-telling within fieldwork.
  • Work closely with the ED to support grant reports/proposals and funder/donor meetings.

Qualifications

We will consider exceptional candidates who demonstrate a strong combination of the specific qualifications and skills described below.

  • 3 years minimum experience in labor, political, or community organizing. Field organizing and direct voter contact experience required.
  • Strong VAN (Voter Activation Network) skills required.
  • Experience working with underrepresented and/or diverse communities.
  • Experience facilitating coalitions and knowledge of Massachusetts' political landscape is a plus.
  • Familiarity with digital organizing tools and analytics (email, mobile messaging, social media) is a plus.
  • Ability to manage several tasks/projects concurrently and prioritize work effectively.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, work well under pressure, be detail-oriented, and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to think independently and creatively.
  • Must exercise good judgment and discretion and be able to work independently and as a member of a group.
  • Ability to engender trust with table partners and confidence in the work.
  • Spanish language skills are highly desired.
  • Willingness to travel regularly throughout the state; a driver's license is required.
  • Willingness to work occasional nights and weekends.

Compensation and Benefits

 

Location: Work will be hybrid. Work is eligible for some remote work

Compensation: The starting salary for this position is $78,000- $82,000 and is commensurate with experience.
