Overview

The BUILD Initiative (buildinitiative.org) is a national effort that advances state work on behalf of young children (prenatal-five), their families, and communities. BUILD staff partner with early childhood state leaders focused on early learning, health, mental health and nutrition, child welfare, and family support and engagement to create the policies, infrastructure, and cross-sector connections necessary for quality and equity. BUILD provides consultation, planning, and tailored implementation assistance, learning opportunities, resources, and cross-state peer exchanges. These efforts help state leaders improve and expand access to quality and promote equitable outcomes for our youngest children.

This position is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a highly effective team to bring about positive change for young children and families, to learn about all aspects of the early childhood field, and to work at the forefront of an exciting movement to promote early childhood systems building.

The BUILD team is virtual; team members are located across the country. The person filling this position will work from a home office. Team members have opportunities to attend in-person meetings but work primarily via phone and computer.

BUILD is fiscally sponsored by TSNE (tsne.org), which provides financial and grants management, human resources, legal, and other supports.

Responsibilities

Vision and Leadership

  • Exemplify and extol BUILD’s values;
  • Stay informed on best practices and industry trends for in-person and hybrid conferences;
  • Develop process improvements based on evaluation and emerging trends to enhance and evolve conference;
  • Develop and be able to articulate BUILD’s vision and mission and have a general understanding of the organization’s work.

Conference Management

  • Directly manage and oversee the full lifecycle of the annual BUILD conference including, but not limited to: theme and schedule development, presenter/session recruitment, sponsor recruitment, session and sponsor space assignments, app development, volunteer management, and evaluation;
  • Work closely with Event Planner to book venues, communicate needs to venue, and support registration;
  • Establish, schedule, coordinate, and facilitate meetings with a conference committee to ensure all aspects of the conference are executed;
  • Work closely with content experts to ensure that engaging and relevant sessions are developed for the conference;
  • Act as primary contact for presenter and sponsor questions and concerns;
  • Work closely with Communications and Learning Communities teams to promote conference, coordinate hybrid aspects, launch and manage conference app, and ensure high production value;
  • Ensure all conference planning files are maintained and include pertinent information for future reference;
  • Maintain meeting calendar and ensure event planning is on track.

  • Strong interpersonal skills – ability to work well with content experts within and outside of the organization;
  • Strong computer skills and comfortable with technology;
  • Two to five years of experience in conference management;
  • Vision and experience for both sustaining and expanding an annual conference;
  • Proven leadership skills in managing a team and working collaboratively with partners;
  • Ability to complete tasks and respond to changes;
  • Some travel required to attend in-person meetings on as needed basis;
  • Familiarity with the early childhood sector, its unique communication needs and personality.

Compensation and Benefits

 

Location: Work will be performed remotely

Compensation: The starting salary for this position is $52,000 - $62,000 and is commensurate with experience.
