The Basics ( mission is to pursue both equity and excellence, by building community capacity to engage and support parents and other caregivers of young children in their roles as the most important influences in their children's lives.The Basics is a community-level public health strategy, working within and across organizations to embed The Basics Principles–five evidence-based practices for promoting early childhood development–into routine family engagement efforts.


The Basics Boston is a member of a national Basics Learning Network of communities, led by The Basics, Inc., a nonprofit organization based in Boston, where the movement began.

The Marketing & Communications Assistant will assist in planning and implementing a social media marketing campaign through a variety of platforms. The candidate will work with our Boston team to create a marketing strategy and toolkit, design/share social media posts, and engage with our partner organizations through social media.


  • Work both independently and collaboratively with The Basics Boston team to develop a social media marketing plan for Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok.
  • Gather necessary content from The Basics Boston team to create social media posts that tell the story and impact of our organization.
  • Design social media posts using The Basics’ branding guidelines.
  • Interact with our partner organizations in Boston through social media (E.g., liking, tagging, sharing, hash tagging, etc.).
  • Target Facebook and Instagram posts based on family demographics.
  • Occasionally attend team meetings to be set around your schedule.
  • Other duties as assigned.



We will consider exceptional candidates who demonstrate a strong combination of the specific qualifications and skills described below.

  • Third-, fourth-, or fifth-year students preferred (status as a student not required).
  • Marketing and Communications Experience required (academic and/or professional).
  • Graphic design experience in platforms such as Canva or InDesign.
  • Proficient in Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok.
  • Ability to work on projects both independently and collaboratively.
  • Dedication to serving families and children in the Boston area.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to:

  • Handle, or feel objects, tools or controls.
  • Reach; traverse; sit (usually for longer periods of time); occasionally ascend/descend; and position self (to) move.

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Job is not subject to significant occupational or environmental hazards.
  • Likelihood of personal injury would be relatively slight.
  • Environmental and work hazards are not present to a measurable degree.

Regarding COVID-19: TSNE considers the health and safety of our employees of the utmost importance, and due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and subject to your state and local laws, our policy requires that all employees performing in-person work at a TSNE designated office are fully vaccinated. For the purpose of this policy, fully vaccinated indicates that you have received a single dose of the Janssen vaccine, or both doses of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine. Compensation and Benefits


Location: Work will be primarily performed remote. 

Compensation: The starting salary for this position is $18 - $22/hour and is commensurate with experience.

Benefits: This position is not eligible for benefits.
