Overview

The Design Studio for Social Intervention (DS4SI)(DS4SI.org) partners with communities, artists, and social justice practitioners to imagine, demonstrate, and collectively rebuild places to be more just and vibrant. Situated at the intersections of design thinking and practice, social justice and activism, public art and social practice and civic / popular engagement, DS4SI designs and tests social interventions with and on behalf of marginalized populations, controversies and ways of life. DS4SI is a fiscally-sponsored organization of TSNE (tsne.org).

Responsibilities

Our expanding organization seeks to hire a full-time Director of Operations to join our team. The Director of Operations will work collaboratively and proactively to facilitate optimum operations of DS4SI on a day to day basis and coordinate the implementation of our fundraising plan. The Director of Operations is a senior level role that works closely with DS4SI’s founders--the Design Methodology Lead and the Program Design Lead--and reports to the Program Design Lead.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

Operations

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the organization (and analyze current systems for improvements).
  • Assure that operational plans for DS4SI’s newly developed strategic plan are developed and implemented.
  • Serve as the point person for DS4SI hiring as the organization expands, including hiring and supervising an upcoming administrative assistant role.
  • Serve as the senior point of contact for our fiscal sponsor, vendors, facilities, and Advisory Board.
  • Ensure strong administrative and technological infrastructure for the staff to work together efficiently, including managing and maintaining an organizational calendar.
  • Ensure maintenance of the office and the Design Gym, including consistent communication with staff regarding supplies to ensure successful programming and operations.
  • Other duties as needed.

Finances and Fund Development

  • Build an annual budget for the organization and prepare program and project budgets.
  • Track expenses and ensure organization operates efficiently and within budget, with the support of TSNE.
  • Assure operational plans for partnership and fund development objectives in the DS4SI strategic plan are developed and implemented.
  • Develop and manage a calendar of key delivery dates for strategic partner requirements, including program cycle timelines and reporting dates, major events, and DS4SI events with opportunity potential for relationship management and cultivation.
  • Lead the ideation, preparation, and delivery of updates on strategic partnerships to DS4SI staff, Advisory Board and TSNE.
  • Track partner outreach, correspondence, input, and requirements in partner database.
  • Manage submission of grant applications and reports to funders.
  • Collect, organize, and maintain a complete and accurate database record of funders.

Qualifications

  • At least 7 years of experience in an operations role.
  • Experience in fund development coordination or management.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to create structure for others to follow.

  • Willingness to grow and learn with the organization.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Must be able to work occasional weekends and evenings.
  • Must be willing to work onsite in Boston, preferably at least 3 days/week when safe (Covid).
  • Computer and other standard office equipment skills sufficient to maintain databases, run zoom meetings, update website, etc.

Additional Skills and Experience

 

  • Bilingual (particularly English/Spanish) a strong plus.
  • Background in facilitation, community development, and/or design a plus.

Regarding COVID-19: TSNE considers the health and safety of our employees of the utmost importance, and due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and subject to your state and local laws, our policy requires that all employees performing in-person work at a TSNE designated office are fully vaccinated. For the purpose of this policy, fully vaccinated indicates that you have received a single dose of the Janssen vaccine, or both doses of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine. Compensation and Benefits

 

Location: Work will be primarily performed 572 Columbia Road, Dorchester, MA. . Candidates must be willing to work onsite in Boston, preferably at least 3 days/week (flexibility based on Covid safety protocols).

Compensation: The starting salary for this position is $75,000/yr - $85,000/yr and is commensurate with experience.
