Overview

ISED Solutions (Institute for Social & Economic Development) has served 400+ organizations in the national refugee and immigrant service sector since 1983. We primarily partner with refugee farming projects to develop audience-appropriate training resources and to otherwise support the work of locally-based partners nationwide. We are primarily funded by USDA for this work. Some of our resources can be found at http://isedsolutions.net. ISED Solutions is a fiscally sponsored project of TSNE (www.tsne.org). TSNE has provided fiscal sponsorship services to nonprofit projects since its founding in 1959 as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.  

 

Responsibilities

Summary: Assist ISED and partners to produce and disseminate T&TA resources, primarily for refugee beginning farmer incubators and their audiences

 

Context - Visually-related resource development: Currently, ISED staff and partners are capturing photographic images and creating photo sequences and a photo bank of individual photos. We are also producing a few short videos. We are also developing products such as posters that emphasize photos, videos, graphic images, etc. During the coming year, we are completing 150 photo series, producing hundreds or thousands of individual images for our new photobank, and creating dozens of other products with high image content levels. ISED staff and partners are generating this visual content and associated products. Most are fairly new to photography, so the content and quality of images varies, but they are also building skills in photography and visual literacy.

 

Once drafted, products are being field-tested with farmers and readied for final stage editing and production before being posted on websites and widely circulated. Developers do some first-stage editing, but not at a more professional level to the most part. (We do have a handful of folks with more advanced photo and/or video skills). We now need help with final stages of editing and overall content production.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Photography: Advanced experience including digital cameras, SLRs and equivalent.
  • Advanced photo editing (Lightroom or Photoshop or equivalent).
  • Content design (Illustrator and/or equivalent). Formatting content for end-user access and use; and inserting into presentation formats using appropriate design software. Adding accreditations and wording and graphic elements to photos – standardize titles, etc.
  • Relevant small agriculture background - knowledge / experience to adequately understand the content being developed and make recommendations.
  • Posting and managing content that goes online.
  • Writing / written content editing.

 

Preferred but not essential:

  • Willingness/ability to learn and apply plain Language and visual literacy design skills appropriate to targeted audiences.
  • Videography – skills and experience.

 

What we need done:

 

Photographic images: These need to be edited for overall quality (resolution, lighting, cropping, color, etc.), sizing and placement, and then packaged individually or as sequences and collections for uploading to our website as ready-to-download content.

 

Content Formatting:

Sizing includes producing versions of single images and image products (e.g., photo series) at varied scales to facilitate access using varied applications and settings - e.g., viewing on a large screen, on a computer, on a smart phone, and in print / hard copy formats. Most images and image-centered products will contain written content to go along with them These also need to be sized, standardized as to size, fonts, colors, etc. and placement in the products. In addition, attribution and related accreditations need to be incorporated, which requires they be edited and standardized before posting.

 

Once ready to circulate, visually based products may be kept as is (e.g., as intact Jpegs and PowerPoints) or formatted further, using existing or new presentation designs such as available via Word, Adobe Acrobat and Illustrator, etc. We may use of our existing module-type designs (see here as an example: https://nesfp.org/new-american-resources

 

Posting: These products items will primarily be posted on our website. Our web techie will help with initial uploading and with developing an improved topic search capacity. After that initial work, individual items can be uploaded independently and/or in concert with the web site associate as needed. Some items like videos will be uploaded to independent media websites such as YouTube and connected via URLs.

 

Qualifications

We will consider exceptional candidates who demonstrate a strong combination of the specific qualifications and skills described below.

 

Essential

  • Photography: Advanced experience including digital cameras, SLRs and equivalent.
  • Advanced photo editing (Lightroom or Photoshop or equivalent).
  • Content design (Illustrator and/or equivalent). Formatting content for end-user access and use; and inserting into presentation formats using appropriate design software. Adding accreditations and wording and graphic elements to photos – standardize titles, etc.
  • Posting and managing content that goes online.
  • Writing / written content editing.
  • Relevant associated computer and software skills for effective editing, communications, etc.
  • Relevant small agriculture background - knowledge / experience to adequately understand the content being developed and make recommendations. This is important!

 

Preferred but not essential:

  • Willingness/ability to learn and apply Plain Language and visual literacy design skills appropriate to targeted audiences.
  • Videography – skills and experience.
  • Familiarity and/or experience with beginning English language learners who are our typical audiences for these resources.

 

Physical Demands/Work Environment

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to:

  • Handle, or feel objects, tools or controls.
  • Reach; traverse; sit (usually for longer periods of time); occasionally ascend/descend; and position self (to) move.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Job is not subject to significant occupational or environmental hazards.
  • Likelihood of personal injury would be relatively slight.

Regarding COVID-19: TSNE considers the health and safety of our employees of the utmost importance, and due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and subject to your state and local laws, our policy requires that all employees performing in-person work at a TSNE designated office are fully vaccinated. For the purpose of this policy, fully vaccinated indicates that you have received a single dose of the Janssen vaccine, or both doses of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine. Certain exemptions may be requested and will be considered by Human Resources.

 

Compensation and Benefits

 

Location: Work will be primarily performed remote.

Compensation: The starting hourly rate is $25.00.

Benefits: This position is not eligible for benefits.

 

Hours: Initially 10-15 hours a week on average (will know better once there is a better fix on the time it takes to perform responsibilities listed). Potential to become more permanent half-time position or greater.

Hours worked are flexible but candidate is expected to be available for calls and on-line meetings (typically flexible scheduling as well, but not always).
