Worker’s Justice Project (WJP) was founded in 2010 to address the racial and economic injustices that low-wage immigrant workers face in New York City by building collective power to win institutional change. WJP, a fiscally sponsored organization of TSNE (tsne.org), runs two long-standing worker’s centers in Brooklyn. We promote justice and opportunity for low-wage immigrant workers in New York City by pushing for systematic enforcement and expansion of workplace protections, which include labor and occupational health and safety standards while advocating for industry-specific efforts to improve working conditions. WJP also offers skills-building training to workers in health & safety and industry-specific areas, and we educate immigrant communities about their rights in the workplace and how to exercise those rights.


The Workers’ Rights Outreach Worker works from WJP‘s Sunset Park Worker Center. The Outreach Worker works directly supporting a team of organizers who are ready to strengthen and expand WJP’s membership, win concrete and transformative workplace campaign victories, and significantly contribute to long-term movement building in New York City and beyond. The ideal candidate will not only align themselves with WJP’s vision and mission but will have organizing experience as a volunteer or paid experience. Administrative understanding of processes and will follow through to the last detail. The Workers’ Rights Outreach Worker is a key thought partner in shaping WJP’s overall organizational development strategy and vision.


This is a temporary position based on WJP's funding cycle.


The Outreach Worker is required to work on-site and regularly on evenings and weekends. The work performed is deemed Essential. The Outreach Worker is responsible for ensuring that activities are conducted professionally, in a culturally sensitive manner, and in alignment with the organizational mission. Compliance with WJP, NY state and NY city COVID-19 safety protocols and requirements is mandatory.


Essential Functions

  • Plans and organizes outreach to the surrounding community and WJP members (i.e. tabling sessions, actions) at various locations including but not limited to schools, public transportation stops, day laborer street corners, etc);
  • Performs all functions and activities within the guidelines and philosophy set forth in WJP’s Strategic Plan, policies, mission, goals, and vision;
  • Participates as a member of various teams as needed;
  • Work with Center Director to strategize and determine outreach goals;
  • Generate leads by exchanging and collecting information from individuals whom they come in contact with in order to refer them to critical services and follow up ensuring they receive needed services within WJP;
  • Assists in completing other program goals and requirements, such as answering phone calls to the program hotline and greeting visitors in the office;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Information and Work Schedule


This is a temporary, full-time (37.5 hours/week); non-exempt position. The position will require working some early mornings, evenings, and/or weekends as needed and will travel periodically once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.


We will consider exceptional candidates who demonstrate a strong combination of the specific qualifications and skills described below.

  • A commitment to WJP’s mission, vision, and values and our workers and worker justice;
  • Proficiency knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.) and other applications (Google Apps.) and equipment operation such as copiers, scanners, fax machines and telephones;
  • Administrative and organizational skills necessary to carry out the job description responsibilities;
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills in English and Spanish.
  • Spanish fluency is required;
  • Strong meeting facilitation skills;
  • Knowledge of NYC public transportation system;
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities at the same time;
  • Dedication and ability to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, and/or weekends as needed.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to:

  • Handle, or feel objects, tools or controls;
  • Reach; traverse; sit or stand (usually for longer periods of time); occasionally ascend/descend; and position self (to) move;
  • Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds;
  • Able to work outdoors in inclement weather conditions;
  • Able to commute using the NYC public transportation system;
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate;
  • Job is not subject to significant occupational or environmental hazards;
  • Likelihood of personal injury would be relatively slight;
  • Environmental and work hazards are not present to a measurable degree.
