A Way Home America (AWHA) is a national initiative to build the movement to prevent and end homelessness among young people. We are homeless youth providers, advocates, researchers, government agencies, philanthropists and young people uniting behind a common goal: Prevent and end homelessness among all youth and young adults. Ensure that homelessness among youth and young adults is rare, and if it occurs, experiences of homelessness are brief and one-time.

A Way Home America’s Finance and Operations Manager oversees the AWHA’s operations. The Finance and Operations Manager reports to the Executive Director. This person will be a nimble, hands-on team member energized by the challenge of managing the high volume of AWHA operational needs. The ideal candidate will be poised to grow professionally alongside the movement and our organization as both reach an important inflection point.

Financial Job Functions

  • Participates in fund development and grant writing process;
  • Participates in spending projection and budget modification plans;
  • Manages and monitors organization’s budgets to ensure accuracy;
  • Monitor spending volume to ensure programs and organization remain on target;
  • Manages contract and negotiations with vendors, and service providers;
  • Partners with Administrator to ensure invoices are processed accurately and timely for payment;
  • Attends leadership body meeting to provide financial report;
  • Collect and compile weekly event and meeting log data to compose quarterly funder reports;
  • Coordinate with TSNE Grants and Finance Manager to:
    • Review monthly financial reports;
    • Prepare grant reports and request budget revisions or grant extensions;
    • Participate in finance calls with TSNE's GFM.
  • Participates in development of the organizations’ annual budgets.

Operational Functions

  • Assist the Director in the development and implementation of the strategic planning process;
  • Be an innovative contributor of ideas, strategizing and implementing them to provide continuous improvement to the organization including the area of process improvement;
  • Develop and maintain a filing system within the Google Suite;
  • Participate in recruiting, orientation and onboarding of new staff;
  • Participate in the development, management, and ongoing enhancement of the Volunteer Management Plan and participating volunteers.

Additional Information

  • This role will require ability to travel for events and meetings and ability to work occasional nights and weekends.

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in Finance and/or Business Management or related degree;
  • 4+ years demonstrated progressive management history in a nonprofit;
  • Program evaluation experience;
  • Effective and productive in a remote work environment;
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office software and Adobe Acrobat, Google Suite;
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills inclusive of public speaking, facilitation and social media;
  • Experience in building relationships with diverse populations;

Additional Qualifications:

  • Valid driver’s license;
  • Ability to travel for events and meetings;
  • Ability to work occasional nights and weekends;
  • Research experience is also a plus.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritize work;
  • Attention to detail and problem solving skills;
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask
  • Lived experience in homelessness, child welfare, juvenile justice is a plus
  • Bi-lingual ability is a plus (Spanish preferred).

Compensation and Benefits


Location: Work will be primarily performed remotely.

This role will require ability to travel for events and meetings and ability to work occasional nights and weekends.

Compensation:  The starting salary for this position is $65,000/yr and is commensurate with experience.
