A Way Home America (AWHA) is a national initiative to build the movement to prevent and end homelessness among young people. We are homeless youth providers, advocates, researchers, government agencies, philanthropists and young people uniting behind a common goal: Prevent and end homelessness among all youth and young adults. Ensure that homelessness among youth and young adults is rare, and if it occurs, experiences of homelessness are brief and one-time.


What is the Grand Challenge?

Over A Four-year Period (by 2023), The A Way Home America Grand Challenge will help ten communities in the united states end homelessness for black, indigenous, youth of color, and LGBTQ+ youth, setting the path to ending homelessness for all youth.


The Data Manager for AWHA Grand Challenge provides the leadership for and guides the implementation of AWHA’s overall data and research work, including measuring outcomes, data accessibility, and data familiarity. The Data Manager reports to and works in tandem with the AWHA Grand Challenge Director.


Grand Challenge Responsibilities


  • In collaboration with the AWHA Grand Challenge National Director, develop and implement an overarching data and measurement strategy for the AWHA Grand Challenge, grounded in the values of LGBTQ+ and racial equity and youth collaboration;
  • Lead the development of new tools and enhance existing tools to assist AWHA, communities, and partners in analyzing data and tracking and improving performance related to the Grand Challenge: 
    • Designing visualizations/dashboards;
    • Facilitating data cleaning and other QA processes to ensure data quality;
    • Building data visualizations using Tableau.
  • Lead implementation of the Grand Challenge measurement framework, including direct coaching on the framework with communities, such as development of tools to support community-facing coaching work, and communicating progress of the Grand Challenge;
  • Develop and maintain and further develop a data infrastructure including:
    • Assuring the highest quality of dashboards and tools;
    • Ensuring appropriate online access to tools and resources.
  • Troubleshoot issues as they arise with data and research related to AWHA’s Grand Challenge;
  • Work to regularly revise data and performance management products based on the changing needs of AWHA, communities and partners;
  • Work with the AHWA Communications and Policy staff to ensure data and data visualizations are available to support the Grand Challenege’s communications and policy goals;  
  • Represent the Grand Challenge, as needed, on various research and evaluation committees and working groups convened by partners;
  • Serve as a resource to Grand Challenge Communities and others on issues pertaining to AWHA’s data activities and developments in the youth homelessness field generally;
  • Contribute strategic thinking to the Grand Challenge’s practice and communications activities and drive close alignment across AWHA’s priority three focus areas;
  • Speak and present on behalf of the Grand Challenge collective effort at conferences, events, and other forums;
  • Participate in strategy development for the initiative, including the strategic plan and annual goals, in partnership with Leadership Body and the Grand Challenge Director.

In addition to the following qualifications, the most competitive candidate has a demonstrated commitment to youth collaboration, LGBTQ and racial equity and ending youth homelessness.


  • Experience in measurement and evaluation related to youth experiencing homelessness, disconnected youth, people experiencing homelessness, or a complementary area (e.g., measurement and evaluation in other social and public policy areas);
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of stakeholders to develop clear measurement strategies and deliver tools to track progress towards goals;
  • Demonstrated experience with databases, data visualization, and data analysis;
  • Demonstrated experience with continuous improvement or improvement science methodologies;
  • Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and project management skills as well as excellent judgment in developing and implementing priorities;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in collaborative environments;
  • Ability to translate data and research into accessible formats (i.e., written, visual, verbal, etc.);
  • Diligent work ethic and personal drive while working independently;
  • Proficiency with Tableau, Microsoft Office Suite and G Suite;
  • Willingness to travel around 25% of the time;
  • Commitment and passion around working with an earnest national team to actually end youth homelessness.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to:

  • Handle, or feel objects, tools or controls;

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate;
  • Job is not subject to significant occupational or environmental hazards;

Compensation and Benefits


Location: Work will be primarily performed remotely from your location. 

Compensation: The starting salary for this position is $70,000.00/year and is commensurate with experience.
