Intern/Associate

Farm to Institution New England (FINE) (farmtoinstitution.org) is the backbone organization for a six-state network of nonprofit, public, and private entities working collaboratively to mobilize the power of New England institutions to transform our food system. The FINE network consists of non-profit organizations, government agencies, institutions, foundations, farms, food distributors, food processors, food service operators and others. FINE supports that network through communications, events, metrics and research, programs, and policy work. By 2030, we envision New England institutions and the FINE network playing leadership roles in cultivating a region that is moving towards self-reliance. We envision an equitable and just food system that provides access to healthy and abundant food for all New Englanders, and is defined by sustainable and productive land and ocean ecosystems.

Farm to Institution New England (FINE) is a fiscally sponsored project of TSNE (tsne.org).

FINE seeks 2-3 interns/associates to join the team to work on several projects and activities in the summer of 2021 (with potential for continued employment). We are eager to work with individuals who are excited about creating a more resilient, just, sustainable regional food system and we will work with the interns/associates to identify the activities that are most aligned with their interests and skill sets.

We will work with interns/associates to identify the activities that are most aligned with their interests and skill sets within the following areas:

Research and Evaluation

• Data collection to better understand farm to institution activity and its impact, including the development of a new campus dining database;
• Research and baseline data collection on food in correctional facilities;
• Develop metrics that measure the impact of community partnerships;
• Facilitation of national farm to institution metrics collaborative conversations with stakeholders across the country.

Communications

• Support social media: sharing FINE updates, uplifting network partners’ work, tracking engagement;
• Support event design and logistics for virtual and perhaps in-person events;
• Support the semi-weekly email newsletter The FINE Print;
• Update FINE website, especially the calendar of events.

Programs

• Support the New England Farm and Sea to Campus Network with meeting planning and online communications (including listserv and social media);
• Assist and/or lead on developing webinars, blogs, and case studies on priority topics for the campus sector including food justice, sustainable packaging, food service management, and values-based procurement;
• Increase engagement with community colleges across New England via research into dining and food systems programs and outreach to new contacts.

• Familiarity or willingness to learn tools like: Google drive; Microsoft Office; Google analytics; Facebook, Instagram, Flickr, and Twitter in a professional context; Drupal (web content management), Insightly (customer management software), MailChimp (email marketing); SurveyMonkey; Asana (project management); and Tableau (data visualization);
• Familiarity or willingness to learn qualitative and quantitative research skills;
• FINE is eager to work with students and individuals to create positions that can also qualify for academic credit or are funded by their institution.

Compensation and Benefits

Location: Work will be performed 100% remotely.

Compensation:  $15.00/hr, part-time.

Benefits: This position is not eligible for benefits.
