Overview

The BUILD Initiative (buildinitiative.org) is a national effort that advances state work on behalf of young children (prenatal-five), their families, and communities. BUILD staff partner with early childhood state leaders focused on early learning, health, mental health and nutrition, child welfare, and family support and engagement to create the policies, infrastructure, and cross-sector connections necessary for quality and equity. BUILD provides consultation, planning, and tailored implementation assistance, learning opportunities, resources, and cross-state peer exchanges. These efforts help state leaders improve and expand access to quality and promote equitable outcomes for our youngest children.

This position is an exciting opportunity to work as part of a highly effective team to bring about positive change for young children and families, to learn about all aspects of the early childhood field, and to work at the forefront of an exciting movement to promote early childhood systems building. 

The BUILD team is virtual; team members are located across the country. The person filling this position will work from a home office. Team members have opportunities to attend in-person meetings but work primarily via phone and computer. 

BUILD is fiscally sponsored by TSNE (TSNE.org), which provides financial and grants management, human resources, legal, and other supports.

Responsibilities

BUILD is seeking a Communications Manager to help raise the bar on BUILD digital properties by delivering the right content to drive engagement. You will be working with a diverse group of professionals to help manage web, social, and email marketing platforms.  

Essential Functions

General Communications Support

  • Manage the end-to-end web, email, and social media content strategy, editorial calendar, and execution;
  • Support the BUILD team in Salesforce management, reporting, and maintenance;
  • Be mindful of BUILD and NCIT branding in all written and graphic content;
  • Work with the Communications Director to establish the content and cadence of outgoing communications via email marketing, social media, and web content;
  • Work with the Learning Communities, NCIT, and BUILD partner state teams to support organizational priorities;
  • Collaborate with the communications team – and particularly the BUILD Editor and Writer – on copywriting/copyediting efforts.

Web

  • Manage day-to-day site content primarily for buildinitiative.org and to some extent, theNCIT.org;
  • Scope, prioritize, and execute website content updates and overall site roadmaps while effectively managing timelines and stakeholders;
  • Work with team to identify new content opportunities for all sites;
  • Work with web developers to update and optimize any new page designs or templates for new content, as needed;
  • Track and report on all site metrics and make recommendations for improvement based on best practices;
  • Pull weekly and monthly website reports in Google Analytics to review content performance, site traffic, and referral traffic and provide analysis for BUILD staff.

Social Media

  • Handle day-to-day content publishing, deliverables, and edits (mix of text, graphics, photos, animations, etc.) using HootSuite;
  • Refine and implement BUILD social media strategy;
  • Manage social content on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn daily;
  • Communicate with industry professionals and influencers via social media to create a strong network;
  • Pull weekly and monthly social media reports in Hootsuite to review content performance and engagement, and provide analysis for BUILD staff;
  • Manage paid advertising, from content development to campaign launch.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in a content and website marketing or digital experience function, along with an understanding of the technologies and tactics needed for execution.
  • Strong writing and editing skills for web.
  • Experience with creating and managing content calendars.
  • Organized thinker with strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and execute effectively under pressure.
  • Experience presenting content ideas to stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
  • Strategic, creative, and design thinker to push the innovation and potential of BUILD digital strategy.
  • An ethos of high performance.
  • Flexible with the ability to adapt to change in a highly dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to manage own time and multi-task combined with strong organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated, driven, smart, and willing to learn with a desire to succeed.

Technical Skills

Some experience in the following areas is preferred but applicant should, at a minimum, be interested in learning them.

  • HTML for formatting content.
  • Google Analytics.
  • Content management in both Drupal and WordPress.
  • SEO management and optimization partners.
  • SEO and web traffic metrics.
  • Campaign Monitor or other powerful email marketing platforms.

Preferred Interests and Experience

  • A strong interest in social justice and racial equity for children and families.
  • Familiarity with or interest in early childhood.
  • Spanish language fluency is a plus, but not required for a successful applicant.

Compensation and Benefits

 

Location: Work is 100% remote.

Compensation: The starting salary range for this position is $47,000 - $62,000 and is commensurate with experience.
