Overview

Future Chefs (www.futurechefs.net) prepares Boston teens to leave high school ready for quality employment and post-secondary education. With a focus on youth development, Future Chefs provides culinary training and authentic work-based learning to prepare teens with the hard skills they will need to succeed in the culinary industry, and the job readiness skills to succeed in any field. Future Chefs’ model is based on the belief that every student is unique and flourishes in settings that provide high expectations, opportunities for growth, and positive interactions with adults.

Responsibilities

This is a new position, as Future Chefs grows its development department. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Director of Major Gifts will build a portfolio to make direct solicitations for significant contributions, and design/execute a strategy to increase individual fundraising and engagement in order to support Future Chefs’ growth in programs and the current capital campaign. This person will also prepare the Executive Director for individual solicitations. The person hired will participate in shaping the strategy and future direction of the development department. The Director of Major Gifts will also support building an Advisory Council that is effective and representative of the community we serve. Essential Duties

  • Develop and implement the overarching individual fundraising strategy to advance the goals and resources in order to grow and sustain the mission of Future Chefs;
  • Design and manage strategies for growth of an individual prospect pipeline including the research, identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for major donors to both annual and capital campaigns;
  • Work with the Executive Director to develop reasonable stretch goals for annual amount raised and number of donors;
  • Manage the cultivation, solicitation and stewarding process for a portfolio of major gift donors and support the Executive Director in her individual major donor work, including making individual solicitations;
  • Prepare the Executive Director for donor meetings and asks;
  • Advise on events strategy;
  • Help build the capacity of Future Chefs’ Advisory Council to identify and invite new donors;
  • Provide direction on the effective use of a CRM to support donor cultivation;
  • Collaborate with the Development and Finance Manager on donor communications and agency-wide marketing efforts;
  • Work collaboratively with Development and Finance Manager to set fundraising stretch goals to support a growing program;
  • Assist the Development Team in planning and executing the public phase of a capital campaign;
  • Salary range of $62,000 - $70,000 is negotiable.

Qualifications

We will consider exceptional candidates who demonstrate a strong combination of the specific qualifications and skills described below. 

  • A minimum of 2-4 years of demonstrated success in closing major gifts;
  • Proven experience in designing and managing an individual fundraising strategy. Capital campaign experience is a plus;
  • Experience with developing and maintaining productive working relationships with board members, donors, and potential prospects;
  • Capacity to work effectively in an environment with evolving priorities, both as a leader and part of a team;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some night and weekend events;
  • Commitment to social justice and a passion for service.

Personal Qualities

  • You are passionate about raising funds to benefit historically marginalized young people;
  • You have 2 to 3 years’ experience of demonstrated success in closing major gifts;
  • You are a committed development professional, excited about helping a small organization grow and expand its network of individual donors;
  • You are comfortable in an informal and dynamic atmosphere, and would like to use your substantial skills to further Future Chefs’ mission.
