Responsibilities

The Lakou Kajou Curriculum Specialist develops educational materials for Lakou Kajou, a multi-platform educational media program for young Haitian children, in close collaboration with Haitian advisors and educators. This position is worked remotely and an appropriate workspace with appropriate technical equipment and internet access must be maintained.  This position is for 20 hours per week through December 31, 2020 and may be extended based on receiving additional funding.

 

Essential Functions

  • Develop educational materials for Haitian children, based on curricular objectives set by Haitian educators and following Lakou Kajou’s core principles;
  • Work with Haitian partners to produce materials in a variety of formats;
  • Work with the BBC Co-Executive Director, Programs and Haitian project staff to develop, monitor and maintain the project work plan;
  • Coordinate with contractors to ensure quality work products;
  • Participate in meetings with advisors, contractors, and other partners;
  • Serve as an ambassador for Lakou Kajou at conferences, workshops, community events, meetings with media, and other settings; and
  • Participate in other activities of Blue Butterfly as appropriate.

Qualifications

We will consider exceptional candidates who demonstrate a strong combination of the specific qualifications and skills described below.

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field;
  • At least five years experience in a similar position in Haitian education.
  • At least three years experience as a classroom teacher, preferably in early primary grage level;
  • Strong knowledge and experience with the Haitian education system, including familiarity with the MENFP curriculum;
  • A high level of energy, enthusiasm and dedication to the mission and objectives of the Lakou Kajou project;
  • Strong organizational proficiency, including the ability to set priorities, manage multiple tasks with different deadlines, organize time effectively, conduct research and identify resources for projects;
  • A collaborative, independent problem solver who can take initiative, set priorities and maximize resources;
  • A commitment to working in a team environment with shared goals; sound judgment and integrity;
  • Wllingness to try new approaches; flexibility in the face of organizational change and ambuguity;
  • Commitment to providing high quality service through responsiveness to all requests and maintaining a professional demeanor at all times;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Fluency in Kreyol and English. Proficiency in French preferred.
