Overview

We are seeking a passionate and talented Communications Specialist who will work closely with our Director of Strategic Partnerships and Development to focus primarily on: building content, upkeeping social media, supporting execution of events and communcations, and provide general support to maximize development team success.

 

Ada Developers Academy (ADA) (www.adadevelopersacademy.org), located in downtown Seattle, provides an intensive software developer training program for women and gender non-binary students with little or no prior software development experience. In one year, students are taught programming techniques and best practices to enable them to become junior developers. The program consists of two distinct parts - six months in the Ada classroom, and five months of internship at local sponsor companies where students refine their skills working on real-world code.

Responsibilities

 Social Media and Marketing- 50%

  • Website, e-newsletter, social media and print materials: Manages and executes, all aspects of social media including, and not limited to, content creation and curation (video, static, copy), calendar creation, posting, and community management.  Gather news-worthy information from Ada colleagues for use in regular newsletters, Marketing and PR efforts, Newsletters, etc...
  • Reviews and reports on effectiveness of social media activities on an ongoing basis, including qualitative and quantitative results as they relate to Ada’s overall OKRs for the year. Aid in effective benchmarks and build best practices for measuring the impact of social media campaigns. Monitor trends in social media tools, applications, channels, design, and strategy to evolve programming
  • Tool development: Designs and creates ad hoc marketing for specific events, for the purpose of sharing the Ada mission and story with prospective company partners, donors and community members. (i.e., talking points, scripts, presentations, videos, testimonies, etc.) and individual donor solicitation and stewardship (i.e., agendas, talking points, presentations, proposals, testimonies, etc...)
  • Photograph/video program: Captures Ada’s stories and history through video or photographic content of our activities and events for use in marketing, media, social media, and development material
  • Identify opportunities to engage customers and potential customers in channels where they are talking about and asking questions about Ada
  • Contributes to the execution of a comprehensive communications strategy for Ada Developers Academy that will continue to build awareness of our mission

 Development/Philanthropy 40%

  • Coordinates with the Development Director and Manager on all development-related events including planned fund appeals through multimedia approaches, GiveBig, annual appeal, email, social media, etc.
  • Drafts solicitation, appeal letters, and acknowledgements;
  • Maintains accurate donor records, in salesforce database
  • Special Events: Assists in the management of events, which may include managing RSVPs, coordinating food, preparing event deliverables, pre-event set up, post-event clean up, etc
  • Monitor donor benefits and ensure that they are executed in an appropriate and timely manner • Gift reconciliation through daily, monthly and as needed periods to assure that all gifts are received and logged correctly into SF Other
  • Be first point of contact for prospects and donors and provide prompt customer service and introduction to appropriate managers
  • Timely and effective acknowledgment to donors, supporters, and community
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 Support Development Director- 10%

  • Answers initial incoming emails and provide basic customer service to prospective new business partners
  • Assists on biz development side regarding closing contracts 
  • Supports for Development Director on both sides of the Development team

Qualifications

We will consider exceptional candidates who demonstrate a strong combination of the specific qualifications and skills described below.

  • 2+ years of experience as a working professional in communication, marketing, philanthropy or related field
  • Proven track record in social media, marketing, fundraising, communications and external facing work
  • Demonstrated passion for Ada’s mission
  • You enjoy carving out a new position
  • Strong experience building relationships and cultivating donors on behalf of a mission driven organization
  • Strong attention to detail including ability and experience in tracking, managing and reporting on donor activity.  SalesForce experience would be a big plus
  • Understanding of moves management and foundational fundraising concepts 
  • Inspirational communication and interpersonal skills with exceptional writing and editing ability, able to make complex concepts digestible for a broad audience
  • Excellent social media and social media marketing skills
  • Understanding of current philanthropic communications strategies, including storytelling, social media engagement, etc...
  • Resourcefulness in setting priorities, multi-tasking, and improving processes
  • Comfort working with people of diverse backgrounds and perspectives
  • Strong skills in use of productivity tools (G-Suite, Slack, etc.) to help organize your work and ours
