  • Overview

    The Network for Public Health Law (Network) (www.networkforphl.org), with the support of its fiscal sponsor, TSNE MissionWorks (www.tsne.org), is a national organization providing leadership, legal technical assistance and educational resources to help public health practitioners, attorneys, policy makers, researchers, advocates, and communities develop, implement, and enforce laws to solve public health challenges.

    Responsibilities

    The Network is seeking a public health attorney for the position of Deputy Director. The Deputy Director will be assigned to the Southeastern Region Office, located at the University of North Carolina Gilings School of Global Public Health, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and will report to the National Director and the Director of the Southeastern Region Office. The position will focus on legal levers to address health and health equity in communities across the country, as well as messaging strategies to build support for law and policy change.

     

    This position will:

    • Provide legal technical assistance;
    • Consult, conduct trainings, develop tools and educational materials;
    • Facilitate opportunities for networking and peer-assistance on legal issues to improve the health of communities;
    • Identify funding opportunities;
    • Write grant proposals;
    • Manage contracts and project deliverables and other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    We will consider exceptional candidates who demonstrate a strong combination of the specific qualifications and skills described below.

    • Attorneys in good standing of the Bar of a U.S. jurisdiction
    • At least 5 years of experience in providing legal counsel or technical legal support in public health or health law, which includes work related to law and policy change are encouraged to apply
    • The successful candidate will have excellent legal research, writing, and public speaking skills; excellent organizational skills; a commitment to social justice; and demonstrated ability to create and maintain partnerships and collaborative relationships with a wide variety of individuals and communities
    • Some travel required
