    Founded in 2016, The Teacher Collaborative (www.theteachercollaborative.org) is a community built by teachers, for teachers that fosters collaboration, empowers innovation, and creates meaningful professional learning opportunities for all educators. We are a startup non-profit located in the Boston area with a statewide focus.


    We offer programs that are designed to bring educators together, elevate teachers as experts, support collaboration across schools, and celebrate and share practices that benefit all students. All educators from any school across Massachusetts are invited to participate in our core programs: 

    • Educator Exchange: The Educator Exchange offers in-person and virtual spaces for educators to connect, share, and learn. At in-person networking events, educators learn about a new topic, share ideas and resources, and connect with other educators from different schools and districts around the state. Educators find like-minded educators and celebrate what's great about teaching. We are also building a vibrant online community that keeps teachers connected to their best resource: one another. Through online interactions, teachers access in-the-moment advice and resources.
    • Co-Labs for Innovation: Co-Labs for Innovation reimagine professional learning into a personalized, yet collaborative experience driven by teachers’ needs and interests. Teachers from different schools collaborate on a problem of practice that's important to them and their students. Teachers learn to work smarter, not harder and gain leadership skills such as: entrepreneurship, design thinking, advocacy, and fundraising to support their ideas.

    The Communications Manager will lead the development of the Teacher Collaborative community, through both the Educator Exchange in-person events and through opportunities for teachers to engage virtually, including outgoing communications including social media, newsletters, and a podcast. Our community has grown swiftly via word-of-mouth and we are seeking someone to help us take it to the next level by ensuring that the Educator Exchange opportunities we offer continue to be exciting, inclusive, and relevant to large numbers of educators, thereby growing the number of teachers who participate in the community.  Because we work with educators, Educator Exchange in-person events occur in the evening (generally 1-2 times per month).


    Compensation range for this role is $70,000 - $80,000 annually.


    The Teacher Collaborative is a fiscally sponsored project of TSNE MissionWorks (www.tsne.org), and awaiting designation as an independent nonprofit organization.


    • Developing a teacher-centered vision for the Teacher Collaborative community
      • Create ambitious, attainable goals for outreach, participant satisfaction, and community diversity along a number of dimensions including geographic location, subject/grade, sector, years of experience, and race/gender, to ensure that our community is and remains inclusive and welcoming to all educators.
      • Develop a coherent yearlong plan that includes large events, smaller dinner events, and online programming and offerings that will align with teachers’ needs and interests and attract new members to the community.
      • Continuously manage our educator database to keep it updated. Monitor community growth via a simple dashboard and use patterns and trends, as well as participant feedback, to inform outreach, communications, and programming for teachers.
    • Leading the planning of Educator Exchange events including: securing content experts/resources, marketing, and managing logistics
      • Work with the Manager of Professional Learning to secure guest speakers/experts and high quality open source resources to share at in-person events; develop and execute creative means for sharing resources with event attendees and others in the broader educator community.
      • Manage the logistics of monthly Educator Exchange events, including securing event space and catering, setting up and managing registration, printing materials, leading the set-up and break-down of events and processing and tracking event expenses.
      • Collaborate with the Manager of Professional Learning to create and execute outreach and event recruitment plans that ensure that we are reaching as many educators across Massachusetts as possible.
    • Sustaining a vibrant virtual community via engaging, creative external communications
      • Create and execute a coherent plan for external communications that will meet both educators’ and the organization’s needs that includes (but is not limited to): social media, emails, and our podcast, Better Together: Stories from the Classroom.
      • Develop benchmarks to track progress and success of external communications over time; collect data and use it to inform communications going forward.
      • Collaborate with the Manager of Professional Learning to run recruitment for Co-Labs and to share outcomes of Co-Labs with the broader educator community.
    • Contributing to a growing start-up organization
      • As a new start-up, we are often “all hands on deck” and require our team members to sometimes contribute to areas outside of their scope, including anything from brainstorming and strategic thinking to mundane tasks.


    We will consider exceptional candidates who demonstrate a strong combination of the specific qualifications and skills described below.

    • Strong track record of experience with communications and marketing strategy.
    • Experience with social media marketing, online communities, and podcasts or a willingness to learn independently.
    • Detail oriented: able to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a way that is planful and that ensures excellent implementation.
    • Tolerance for ambiguity and the ability to think quickly and flexibly; willingness to put in extra time to problem solve independently and creatively when needed.
    • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
    • Alignment with organizational mission; belief that educators are awesome and deserve to be supported as leaders and experts in the highest quality ways possible.
    • Interest in joining a small early-stage startup organization with a fast-paced, collegial environment.
