The mission of Station1 is to expand educational opportunity and develop equitable, ethical, and sustainable science and technologies. Station1 partners with leading startup companies and university research laboratories within the greater Boston entrepreneurial ecosystem in emerging fields such as computational biotechnology, biomanufacturing, agricultural technology, civic technology, inclusive social media, advanced manufacturing and digital automation, autonomous aeronautics, and nanoscale materials design.

    Station1 is seeking a Director of Programs who is passionate about innovation in higher education, social impact through science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), interdisciplinary collaboration, and fostering equity and inclusion. The Director of Programs will assume a key leadership role and be responsible for the strategic development and operational success of Station1 programs. Areas of responsibility include coordination and management of Station1 programs, initiatives, and partnerships including the flagship Station1 Frontiers Fellowship, corporate engagement with startup companies, venture firms, and university partnerships, evaluation data analytics, alumni engagement, and collaboration with the Station1 founders on new post-secondary financial models including social impact investing. This position and Station1 are based in a beautiful, newly renovated, innovative learning and office space in a historic mill in Lawrence, Massachusetts, along the Merrimack River.



    • Recruitment: Develop a robust pool of qualified applicants for Station1 programs, develop recruiting materials, create and maintain a timeline of recruitment activities, conduct outreach and create and cultivate partnerships with organizations, universities, and programs that facilitate student recruitment;
    • Admissions: Manage the logistics of the admissions process, including timelines and communications;
    • Internship Placements: Source and identify appropriate internship and project host organizations including local companies, start-ups, and academic research laboratories in north eastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire;
    • Coordinate Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) with partnering organizations and and Station1’s fiscal sponsor, TSNE MissionWorks;
    • Develop a timeline and matrix of all program elements and manage the logistics of all program elements;
    • Source student housing and negotiate leases;
    • Coordinate student travel;
    • Maintain communication continuity and foster engagement with partner organizations as a point of contact;
    • Write a final summary report to go into Station1’s annual report, including assessment data. Produce other student and assessment data as needed;
    • Engage with and mentor students. Facilitate cohort and community building;
    • Deliver a professional advancement curriculum for Station1 Frontiers Fellowship program;
    • Develop and coordinate alumni relations;
    • Assist with fundraising activities for Station1 including grant writing, preparation of financial documents, grant reporting, attending and planning events, and relationship management and documentation.
    • Responsible for other program administrative aspects such as program budgeting and financial reporting, travel reimbursements, legal documentation, etc.



    Receive direct supervision from the Founder.


    We will consider exceptional candidates who demonstrate a strong combination of the specific qualifications and skills described below.


    • Masters Degree preferred (for example, Masters in Business Administration, Masters in Education)
    • Training or other academic administration experience in science, engineering or technology, or a doctorate in the aforementioned areas is a plus
    • Must have strong written, oral and communications skills, especially the demonstrated ability to work with diverse constituencies (faculty, staff, students) and articulate the values of science and engineering
    • Digital fluency required including use of Google suites, Microsoft Office, and Adobe Acrobat
    • Desired experience with Salesforce, Qualtrics, and Slack
    • Experience in engaging with corporate sponsors, in particular in the greater Boston area, and negotiation of legal contracts desirable
