  • Overview

    Designed to bolster a robust regional food system, the Worcester Regional Food Hub’s (www.worcesterfoodhub.org) mission is to increase local food access and consumption and recruit, retain, and incubate local food entrepreneurs, collectively building healthy, sustainable, and just communities. Worcester Regional Food Hub is a fiscally sponsored project of TSNE MissionWorks (www.tsne.org).

    Responsibilities

    The Sales Manager is a full-time, exempt position that reports to the Senior Project Manager. The Sales Manager is responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships and fostering new relationships with local farmers and food producers, as well as buyers of their products. 

     

    Relationship Management

    • Manage aggregation and distribution of local farm products to customers, including scheduling pickups and deliveries for all orders;
    • Proactively identify prospects and secure the participation of new farmers/local food producers and new accounts with buyers in accordance with annual sales goals;
    • Provide excellent customer service, including answering calls and emails, taking accurate orders, problem solving, and responding to customer inquiries;
    • Support farmers to produce quality products for the wholesale market;
    • Maintain and deepen producer/vendor and customer relationships and manage communications.

    Systems Management

    • Manage Edible Software, including data management, reporting, invoicing, product availability, and ease of use for customers;
    • Work with Senior Project Manager to develop, implement, and evaluate sales business pipeline, marketing materials, and promotional activities, including web content, social media, print media, etc.;
    • Develop and manage systems to maintain quality standards throughout the supply chain and to meet health and safety protocols, including on-farm inspections, appropriate product handling and storage, cold-chain management, etc.

    Other

    • Participate in meetings and activities as required by the Food Hub and its fiscal sponsor (TSNE MissionWorks);
    • Drive, load, and unload Food Hub’s 16-foot refrigerated box truck to make on-time pickups and deliveries of orders, as needed;
    • Other duties as assigned by the Senior Project Manager.

    Special Requirements

    • Travel as needed to meet with existing and prospective producers and buyers and to attend relevant conferences;
    • Occasional evening/weekend work required;
    • ServSafe Food Safety certification – training provided by Food Hub;
    • Valid Driver’s license required for occasional travel;
    • Ability to safely drive a 16-foot refrigerated box truck.

    Qualifications

    We will consider exceptional candidates who demonstrate a strong combination of the specific qualifications and skills described below.

    • Previous sales experience required;
    • Farming, Marketing, Food service, Warehouse, Buying, and/or Transportation/delivery experience desirable;
    • Self-motivated, detail oriented, highly organized, and reliable;
    • Entrepreneur spirit;
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks with competing deadlines;
    • Comfortable working alone and in teams both in-person and online;
    • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills; ability to establish rapport with existing and prospective customers;
    • Comfort with online collaboration tools, e.g., shared calendars, email, shared folders/files (Dropbox, Google Drive, Google Apps);
    • Experience and comfort using online databases and web browsers;
    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
    • Experience using Microsoft Office or G Suite;
    • Commitment to the Food Hub’s mission.

    Work is performed in a warehouse environment and in close proximity to other workers.

     

    While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to:

    • Talk, hear and see in the normal range with or without correction;
    • Use hands or fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls;
    • Move, traverse, sit, stand (usually for longer periods of time); reach with hands and arms; occasionally Ascend/Descend; and position self (to), move;
    • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds;
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate;
    • Job is not subject to significant occupational or environmental hazards;
    • Use a pallet jack and electric pallet jack.
