Real Food Generation (RFG), a fiscally sponsored program of TSNE MissionWorks, harness the power of youth and universities to create a just, fair, and sustainable food system. We organize communities in and around institutions of higher educations to run campaigns that oppose corporate power and racism in our food system and that build a 'Real Food economy.’ RFG maintains a national network of student food activists—providing opportunities for networking, learning, and leadership development for thousands of emerging leaders.
One of RFG’s programs is Real Food Challenge (RFC), which, for the past ten years, has worked to shift $1 billion (20%) of higher education’s food budgets towards Real Food - food that is Local & Community Based, Fair, Ecologically Sound, and/or Humane. Designed by RFG, the primary tools for making these changes are the Real Food Campus Commitment, the Real Food Standards, and the Real Food Calculator. The Real Food Campus Commitment is a documented agreement and commitment by colleges and universities to purchase a minimum of 20% real food by 2020. The Real Food Standards offer a formal definition of Real Food, while the Real Food Calculator is the tool that students use to calculate the percentage of a dining budget that goes toward Real Food.
We are a national organization and our staff work in various locations across the country including Boston, New York City, St. Louis, Atlanta, San Francisco and Seattle. For this position, Boston is preferred, but other locations are possible.
The Program Coordinator (Coordinator) plays a crucial role in supporting the implementation of the Real Food Campus Commitment as we enter into the signature year of 2020. This includes supporting both individual campuses, and university systems such as the California State University system. The Coordinator also supports the Real Food Calculator by maintaining tracking systems and supporting students, and campus and dining staff, who are researching ways to increase Real Food on campus. The Coordinator leads this exciting and successful project to celebrate the culmination of the national campaign for 20% Real Food by 2020, including managing communications with RFG’s broader network, along with conducting research to surface, analyze and communicate key learnings from this campaign.
This role may also contribute to driving and participating in planning the future of other Real Food Challenge programs. This position is based in our Boston, MA office, with a preference for local candidates. However, other locations are possible. It is a full-time position offering some flexibility in the work schedule with some weekend work time and periodic travel.
