  • Overview

    The BUILD Initiative (BUILD) is supporting leaders and teams to promote optimal health and wellbeing for children prenatal to five; shift or realign systems to increase access to opportunities for young children and families; and engage community members with lived experience in the definition, design and development of solutions. BUILD is a fiscally sponsored project of TSNE MissionWorks.

    Project HOPE is supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation that seeks to support states and communities to increase access to opportunities for young children and their families. Project HOPE Consortium is one of RWJF’s strategies to advance health equity and child wellbeing; by leveraging the knowledge, tools, and resources of the BUILD Initiative, Nemours, and BMC Vital Village Network.

    The BUILD Initiative is seeking to fill three State Document-Writer positions in California, Minnesota, and New Jersey for Project HOPE. The role of the Document-Writer is to support the learning and help document the process of change within the cross-system early childhood team during the length of the project. Documenter-Writers will:

    • Capture themes during team meetings;
    • Interview team members regularly about the process, major opportunities, and obstacles in Project HOPE;
    • Provide monthly summaries to the state leads and BUILD regarding the state and community activities, including meetings, interviews, beneficiary voice visits, etc. These summaries will be written to reflect the context of the opportunities and challenges the state team faces throughout the project.

    Compensation and Hours

    Compensation will be based on experience and may range $35-60 per hour. The documenter will work approximately 16 hours a month in this role for their team.

    Special Requirements

    The individual will be expected to sit at in-person and virtual meetings throughout the month. Statewide travel is likely depending on meeting locations and is fully reimbursed. Applicants need to reside in the state for which they are applying (CA, MN, or NJ). The term length of this position is from March 2019 and concludes in April 2020.

    • The ability to listen and not participate—offering a neutral perspective to be in team meetings so that they can produce an objective summary of themes and headlines from the discussion that contribute to the state’s and BUILD’s learning agenda;
    • A basic understanding of the players, systems, institutions and processes that impact young children and their families;
    • Experience writing reports, meeting summaries, case studies is a plus, as is experience interviewing state and community leaders, parents, and residents about the issues that matter most to them. Might consider someone with writing or documenting experience such as an administrative assistant or a stenographer.
